Expand the Idea

Expand the ideas of proverb, “A book cannot be judged by its cover”.

[Hints: Explain the concept (introduction), give example (related story) , illustrated the idea and give moral.]

Ans: The proverb, “A book cannot be judged by its cover explains that a book with a very attractive cover may not have readable material inside. On the other hand, a book with a very dull cover may be very interesting which is also true in the human life. What we see with our own eyes, is not really true. There may be other side of the coin . A famous detective, Sherlock Holmes says in the novel “the sign of four,” “It is of the first importance, not to allow your judgment to be biased by personal qualities.

Let‟s see a story which will clear our idea; one day a doctor entered his hospital in a hurry for an urgent surgery of a boy. He was a little bit late that day. The buy’s father who was waiting for the doctor saw him and yelled: “Why are you late? Don’t you have any sense of responsibility?” The doctor smiled & said: “I am sorry, I came as fast as I received the call…… And now, I wish you’d calm down so that I can do my work” “Calm down! If your own son were in this condition,  would you come late?” said the father angrily. The doctor smiled and went into the operation theater. After some time, the doctor came out happily,

“Thanks God! Your son is out of danger!” And absolutely ran away from there. “What an arrogant doctor he is! He couldn’t tell me properly about the condition of my son.” said the father. The nurse answered, with the tears “His son died yesterday in a road accident, he was in the burial when we called him for your son’s surgery. Leaving that burial he came to save your son’s life and now he left to finish the burial.” The father had no words to speak.

The story gives us moral that we should not come on the conclusion from what we see. There may be another reason behind any practice.
