JEE Main 2023 Bombay High Court Verdict: The Bombay High Court has dismissed a petition filed by the Board seeking relaxation in the pass percentage while upholding the requirement of 75 percent marks for admission to IITs and NITs.

With the announcement of the results of JEE Main 2023, the country’s largest engineering entrance exam, lakhs of students are looking for information on the NITs and IIITs they are eligible for based on their scores.

On Wednesday, May 3, the Bombay High Court dismissed a petition seeking relaxation in the pass percentage and upheld the requirement of 75 percent marks for admission to IITs and NITs, affecting lakhs of students who do not meet the criteria. Meanwhile, thousands of students who did not score as expected are exploring other admission options.

Many students start applying to other engineering institutes, as the admission process is still open in many major engineering institutes in the country, including BITS Pilani, Manipal, Mangaluru, PES Bengaluru, KIIT Kalinga, SRM Chennai, MIT Pune, UPES Dehradun, NIIMS Mumbai, Shiv Nadar Noida, Bennett Noida, BBP Pune, and LPU Punjab. Admission to these institutes is through their own entrance exams, and board eligibility is not required.

Additionally, students who have a low All India Rank in JEE Main can apply to State Engineering Colleges through the 15% other state quota based on their JEE Main scores. These states include Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Haryana, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Odisha, and West Bengal.

Now The National Testing Agency will apply the eligibility criterion for students who will get a minimum of 75 per cent marks in their board exams will get admission to engineering colleges even after qualifying in the JEE Mains entrance test. This rule was revoked during the Covid era. The eligibility criteria to appear in JEE Main 2023 will remain the same as last year, whereas the criteria for admission into IIITs, NITs and GFTIs have been renewed.

“Admission to B.E. / B.Tech / B.Arch / B.Planning. Courses in NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs participating through Central Seat Allocation Board will be based on All India Rank subject to the condition that the candidate should have secured at least 75% marks in the Class 12 examination conducted by the respective Boards. For SC/ST candidates the qualifying marks would be 65% in Class 12/qualifying examination. The candidate is also required to pass in each of the subjects of Class 12 / qualifying examination,” reads the official statement.

The 75 per cent mark criteria were revoked in 2020 as a measure to relax norms for admission at centrally-funded institutions amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic which resulted in the closure of schools, and colleges and disrupted almost all education-related activities across the country.

Amit Patil a student said that Many parents and students don’t know that only 75 percent marks (no grouping) in 12th board are not allowed in engineering. A student prepares only for JEE for 2 years and then when the month of December comes to an end, Students start preparing for board , cet. From 11th to half year of 12th, he has not studied any theory. Isn’t it difficult to get 75 percent marks after studying theory in the last 2-3 months? Even in that, English is completely neglected and then because of this English, the percentage of children falls and everything is wasted. So students will be successful only if they study all along with JEE from the beginning.
