Expand the Idea

Expand the ideas of proverb, “A book cannot be judged by its cover”. [Hints: Explain the concept (introduction), give example (related story) , illustrated the idea and give moral.] Ans: The proverb, “A book cannot be judged by its cover explains that a book with a very attractive cover may not have readable material inside. On the other hand, a book with a very dull cover may be very interesting which is also true in the human life. What we see with our own eyes, is not really true. There may be other side of the coin . A famous detective, Sherlock Holmes says in the novel “the sign of four,” “It is of the first importance, not to allow your judgment to be biased by personal qualities. Let‟s see a story which will clear our idea; one day a doctor entered his hospital in a hurry for an urgent surgery of a boy. He was a little bit late that day. The buy’s father who was waiting for the doctor saw him and yelled: “Why are you late? Don’t you have any sense of responsibility?” The doctor smiled & said: “I am sorry, I came as fast as I received the call…… And now, I wish you’d calm down so that I can do my work” “Calm down! If your own son were in this condition,  would you come late?” said the father angrily. The doctor smiled and went into the operation theater. After some time, the doctor came out happily, “Thanks God! Your son is out of danger!” And absolutely ran away from there. “What an arrogant doctor he is! He couldn’t tell me properly about the condition of my son.” said the father. The nurse answered, with the tears “His son died yesterday in a road accident, he was in the burial when we called him for your son’s surgery. Leaving that burial he came to save your son’s life and now he left to finish the burial.” The father had no words to speak.  The story gives us moral that we should not come on the conclusion from what we see. Write a speech in 120 words on “Courtesy” to be delivered by you as a class representative in the morning assembly. Good Morning, honourable Chief guest, Respected teachers and my dear friends, today, as a class representative, I am going to speak on an important and useful aspect of our lives “courtesy”.       Friends, let us imagine a situation when you board a bus, very tired and you get a place to sit. You are delighted but in the next stop, a lady boards the bus with a baby in her arms. What will you do? Courtesy demands that you get up and offer the seat to the lady. This is a small gesture. You may get a place to sit in the next stop only, but your decision to consider the need of the lady more acute (smart) that gives you a sense of satisfaction. Using polite words like please and thank you is also courtesy. When you pass this courtesy to others and it becomes a circle. We have seen it in our lesson, “On saying please.”   Friends, I strongly believe that it is possible to ignore unpleasant situation by practicing restraint. Keeping one cool is the only way to be happy. It is not a herculean task but one needs to work for it. The great thinker, Roosevelt truly said, “Courtesy” is as much a mark of a gentleman as courage.” May be, it is one selfish need to maintain peace and small gestures of kindness, politeness, good man. So friends, be polite in life. Thank you very much friends. Jai Hind! Write a speech in 120 words on “Courtesy” to be delivered by you as a class representative in the morning assembly.
