Maharashtra Day is celebrated annually on May 1 to commemorate the day on which the western Indian state was created in the year 1960 .

Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj :

Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was a legendary Maratha king who is revered as a hero in Maharashtra and across India. He was born in 1630 in the Shivneri Fort, which is now located in Pune district of Maharashtra.
